Slowly...

Getting back on track.  I don't know if I can possibly be ready to run a half-marathon by January 18.  But I am trying.

I got out and ran 7 miles yesterday, it was a lovely Colorado afternoon, with a high of around 50º.  During the week, I went to my new gym and ran on the treadmill which was fabulous!  I am so glad I have a gym membership now... it is 3º below zero right now, and expected to get colder.  I enjoyed the treadmill so much more than I expected.

So, here's the plan:
Dec. 14 - 20:  run 3 miles X2 days.  Long Run 8 miles
Dec. 21 - 27:  run 3 miles X2 days.  Long Run 9 miles
Dec. 28-Jan. 3: run 3 miles X2 days.  Long Run 10 miles
Jan. 4 - 10: run 3 miles X2 days.  Long Run 3 miles.
Jan. 11 - 17 Taper Week
January 18, 2009 P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll (Half) Marathon

There is no margin for error there.

Tomorrow is my 57th birthday.  Happy Birthday to me.

Plans for my 58th year?
  • One half-marathon (I hope)
  • Two Triathlons (Danskin and Tri for the Cure)
  • THINK about the Boulder Backroads half marathon in September
But really, I think I need to scale back on the running.  Not quit, but stop the long distances, I am so crippled up with the piriformis syndrome, low back pain, and now plantar fasciitis (again).  I would like to focus more on triathlon, cross-training.  Getting in the pool and on the bike.  That's what I am thinking for now anyway.

Happy Birthday to you!!!

Glad the gym membership is working out for you. Looks like a solid plan to get you to the HM. :-)

Happy Birthday Mary! Hope you have a good one.

Hey, if you think you should scale back and run shorter distances, just do it. After (or while) running my first half marathon yesterday I decided I think I like shorter distances better than longer distances. I get plenty tired enough after running 5k, and it's certainly no disgrace to run shorter races, especially when you're our age. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Happy birthday, Mary! Your plan sounds quite do-able and I know you're going to rock the PF Chang race.

I'd love to try a tri, but I can't swim a lick and I don't own a bike! That you have two on your schedule is amazing.

That is some wicked cold weather. I'm glad you can run inside!

Happy Birthday. My gift to you is to check out tptherapy.com and look under foot pain for your plantar fasiitis. I, also use a heel insert when I have PF.

I, actually didn't buy anything from triggerpoint, so I don't know how much there stuff is. I just thought there website had a lot of useful info. I did by "The Stick" awhile back and it's useful. And I use my wife's foam roller.

Happy birthday!

I don't know much but I think that seems like a fine plan for your half. You'll do great!

I think the plan for the half marathon should work just fine to get you across the finish line.

Happy Birthday!
