Should there be a minimum IQ requirement to purchase a Garmin?

The other morning it was dead. Because apparently I am not bright enough to keep the Garmin on its little charger thing. This morning I went out for a run in the dark and turned the thing off instead of on and didn't realize it until about a mile into the run.

Tomorrow I will run 8 miles and then my taper begins in earnest. This week I have not run much, I am still not totally well. I am actually starting to worry about making the max time allowed for this half-marathon. 4 hours.

I just got done telling a coworker that I cannot wait to be done with all this training. Then in the next breath, I told her that I am thinking about doing the Houston Marathon in January. What is wrong with me??? Or the P.F. Chang's in Phoenix would be great.

One thing I DO know is that I want my next big race to be at sea level, not altitude. I can train at altitude (have no choice about this), but I would really like to experience racing at or around sea level.

Yeah, that Garmin is tricky. I don't think you have to be smart with it, you just have to be trickier with it.

Use the plug that goes into the wall socket to charge the Garmin. Charging it on the USB adapter is OK, but like you said, it is subject to getting bumped and stuff. If you use the electrical outlet, it can be put on shelf or table somewhere....

I am putting my vote in for PF Changs!! Come to Phoenix!! :>)

I know what you mean about the training...I can't wait to have a few more mornings to sleep in but then 10 minutes later I start thinking about an Olympic triathlon.

Come join the fun in Phoenix. We are going to have a ton of bloggers here.

Running at sea level is certainly easier. Just check out my race post from last weekend if you don't believe it.

I only re-charge my Garmin when it is totally run down - i think keeping it on charge wears the battery out much quicker (or so I'm led to believe!).

Good luck with the HM - I'm with you on the self-doubt but I'm sure we'll come through on the day!

somedays I think my Garmin is a pathological liar and makes up splits. Perhaps they are friends...

You'll do fine and if you weren't anxious about the HM that would be worse. I think we all suffer from the same disease, I think it would be nice not to wake up at 4am to run but I'm dreading my taper.

Find some place at sea level that is nice and cool, not steamy Florida.

ROFLMAO!! I have a love/hate relationship with my Garmin also.

You know what I really think is amazing? This Mary is the same Mary that months prior was nervous as heck going into her first HM and now look at you! Ready to go on with your second HM and plotting a marathon! ;-)

I've done the same with the Garmin, my kids knock if off the cradle no matter where I try charging it. And I turned it off mid-ride on Sunday. Silly me.

Racing at sea level would be awesome. The few times I've run at sea level after training/living at altitude, well I felt like SUPERWOMAN.

Dang!!! I see that Lisa beat me here because I knew she would say P.F. Chang...but I was going to say meet me in Houston and run with me...we are about the same pace...

BTW...I know you will do better than the 4 hour half-M...you can do that and walk...you are just getting some of the pre-race jitters....take a deep breath...in with the good....out with the bad...
