San Diego?

Last night I went to a cocktail party with a bunch of people from work. I normally don't attend these kinds of events because I don't drink (at all - I used to - a lot - but that is a different story), but I went last night because the hostess is a woman I really love.

I had the best time! I chatted for a long time with the wife of one of my favorite men at work (not to be confused with the 80s band, do you come from the land down unda?) and discovered among many things we have in common is running!!!

She is going to run the Rock n' Roll Marathon in San Diego on June 1, 2008 and she encouraged me to do the same. She said if I can run a 1/2 marathon, I can run a full marathon. Yikes.

I recall what Jeff Galloway told me when I told him I would really like to run a full marathon. I explained to him how slow I run, and he encouraged me to do a full marathon, but definitely NOT at altitude.

Can I really do this? I really don't know.

When you guys travel to a race how long do you stay in the foreign town? Room rates in SD are v.v. expensive. I don't know if I can really afford to go....

I am thinking it over. Wouldn't that be something? My first marathon at the age of 56. That takes sheer gall, doesn't it?

(I listened to the video of "the land down under" while I was posting this, I don't recall that I ever particularly liked the song, but it was fun to listen to.)

Of course you can do it. Michelle is one of my inspirations! And she is a marathon maniac, having done six in six months last year.

Jeff Galloway was our guest speaker this weekend. He said he was going to do run 1 minute walk 1 minute and come in about 4:50 to 5:00 for the marathon. He passed me at mile 23 looking strong while I was struggling with cramps.

I can't help you out with the logistics, but where there is a will, there's a way.

If you are entertaining the idea of running a full marathon you should run a full marathon. It's worth all the work involved to make it happen.

I am thinking about that same marathon. I am trying to twist DH's arm. I will keep you posted. :>)

I totally think you can do it!

I start marathon training tomorrow. I'm registered for a half in late April, but can change my mind and upgrade later. I'll know probably a month before the event if I can do it or not. Despite everyone saying "you can do it!", they're not us (I'm 56 too). I'd be the last person to tell you you can, and the first to wish you well if you decided to do it.

I was going to wait until my 60th year to run my first full, but if it happens earlier, that's okay with me!

You CAN SO DO THIS MARY!!! DO IT DO IT!! Ugghh I only wish they had it later in the year, DH and I are planning a trip to SD in August. If it were later I would soooo stop by to cheer you on.

A June marathon would give you exactly the right amount of time to train for a full marathon, and I agree that if you can do half, you can do full.

I would stay at least 3 days in San Diego.

Do the RNR San Diego Marathon with me and J~mom. The room rates in SD are reasonable. There are some expensive rooms and you can find some less expensive ones. I can help you with this. Feel free to email me at any time.

If you want to do it, and train for it, you can do it.

If I ever do a full marathon, I want to run it with someone.

I love San Diego. I almost suggested that I'd consider running it too, but then I remembered, I don't think I WANT to run a full marathon.

But gee. That would be a great time of year to spend a week in San Diego...
