Back Home Again

I got home from Alaska yesterday.  I was gone for too long and I am very very grateful to be home.  I have not worked out once since the half marathon on June 21.  Yikes.

I have a triathlon in a month, so I need to do some serious training on the bike and in open water.  I thought I would get out there today, but I feel crappy and it is raining right now.  In other words - I am lacking motivation.

In the past, when I have really been motivated for training, a little sore throat, headache, running nose and some rain would never stop me.

Where do you get the motivation from when it is gone?

Good question. Motivation is a strange thing. When it's gone, it's really gone.

But for me, something (often random) gets me excited again and the motivation comes back. Recently for me it was Total Immersion.

Shrug.

It can be hard to find that motivation. Sometimes it just takes one good run, or a good race. Maybe go through your blog, read old posts. Look through old race photos. Maybe something will reignite that spark

Awwhhh Mary you needed the break :-)
Usually just signing up for a race is motivation enough for me. But Kevin has a great idea with the memory lane thingy!

Welcome home, Mary! Usually, knowing I need to swim, bike, and run soon is enough motivation for me :-)

I'm with Marcy. Sometimes you just need to take a break from things, and get out there because you want to, not because you have to.

I usually picture the race itself..the finish line. How do I want that to look? Do I want to train hard and come across feeling strong? That usually is enough to get me out to train.

I don't know where it comes from. Magic?

Motivation can be elusive. I find the toughest thing is to simply get myself dressed and out the door...then it all kicks in.

Know thyself...and you will find it!!

I also find some motivation in signing up for a race. Sometimes, though, I don't know where the motivation comes from, especially when I am tired (thanks to kids and school) and hungry and generally not prepared to run.

I hope you had a wonderful time in Alaska!
