Question of Etiquette

OK, if it is not good race etiquette to wear a race shirt for a race you were never in, how about this...

I am in Charlotte, NC on a business trip.  At the Denver Airport today, I was putting myself back together after going through security and noticed the guy ahead of me had a "Chicago Marathon" luggage tag.  So, knowing what happened last year (ungodly heat and a canceled race) at the Chicago Marathon, I asked him if he finished the Chicago Marathon.  Well, he looked at me like I was the most intrusive person on earth and said "I never ran the Chicago Marathon."

Well, Excuuuuuuse me!

If you are carrying a bag with a Chicago Marathon luggage tag, shouldn't you have run the thing?

On another note, I see I have a "follower"!  How cool!  You Rock Marcy.

Do you think I will get around to running in downtown Charlotte?  It COULD happen.

That guy was pretty rude - you were just asking about his luggage tag - not asking him to perform open heart surgery or anything.

I'm following you now too. :)

B/c of what went down in Chicago last year (and b/c I was there, experiencing it), I think only those who finished have the right to sport that kind of stuff.

I have a new question of etiquette. I didn't finish my HM. They did have a 5K and 10K. We all got the same shirts. I did run 6.3 miles). Can I wear the shirt or not?

Bad etiquitte...but worse to be rude to you.

I had the same thing happen. Saw a guy with last year's Chicago Marathon shirt on in a resturanut. I walked up and said hi and asked him how he survived the heat. He got a little nervous and said, "well, uh, acutally, uh, I just worked at the expo selling stuff." He was nice...and honest. But...

How blinkin rude of that man... if he MUST have a bag claiming success then he ought to expect the question!

... unless of course you're 6 years old and a family friend has just given you a bag (I've gave my event bag from last weekend to a friend's little boy!!)
