12 Days and Counting

That's my Nike+ page. As you can see, I am tapering in preparation for the half-marathon on May 20. I cannot believe it is only 12 days away.
Yesterday I took a 3.1 mile run - it took 36:25, for a pace of 11:44.
Today I wasn't going to run, but decided to go out for a quick 2 miles - 22:54, pace of 11:25.
I haven't run *only* two miles since I started training for the half-marathon... in January. I think I have trained for too long. I think I was actually in better shape back in February!
Question: I hope to get a garmin this weekend. My kids are getting me a Mother's Day gift certificate for REI - and between that and my dividend from last year's purchases, I think I have the garmin pretty well paid for... the cheaper one anyway. Anyone have any advice?

I have a 205 and I love it although lately I've found that sometimes it is better for me to go out without the Garmin attached because I can start obsessing too much over the numbers. But when I'm not obsessing too much, I think it is AWESOME.

The 205 is really nice (I have an older 201). If you want a heart rate monitor, then go for the 305, but I just find monitoring your heart rate is yet another number to think (obsess) about while you are running.

Wow, the HM will be here before you know it!! I have the most basic Garmin. The 101. I didn't know how much I'd be into running before I got it so I figured I'd start at the bottom LOL But now I'm wishing I got the 305 (the one with the HR monitor) I'm sure this will be another thing I can con my husband into getting me haha.

I went and looked at them today and I think I decided on the 305. They are on sale, and there is a rebate, and I have my dividend, and will have a gift certificate!

Thanks for asking the Garmin question. I'm in the market as well, so your readers' comments are very helpful.

I started training for my first half in January, as well. It did seem like a long training period by the time I got to the end of it, but now that it's over I'm not nearly as focused as I'd like to be.

Which means I'm looking for something in August to start training for. I'm a glutton!
